Studio Joy!

Rohaana, a pharmacist in her early 20’s, signed up for a class at Studio J in July 2018. But the desire to enrol had first creeped up on her in 2016. So why did it take her so long to follow through?

Like many of us, she had a number of valid reasons (excuses!) – “How would I get to the studio? I don’t know if I have enough time. I don’t know if I can commit to going every week.” Etc etc.

In 2017, struggling with finding happiness in her day to day routine, she did a lot of self-evaluating. She realized that there’s nothing in her life that she really looks forward to. And she decided that she should make a conscious effort to fill her life with things she enjoys.

During this time she happened to read another Studio J blog – Am I the worst in class? It triggered something in her, realizing that everyone feels the same way, the same fears & hesitations. She wasn’t alone.

Finally in July 2018 she jumped in the deep end and signed up for South Indian Street classes.

How did this impact her?

“Joy. Just pure joy! After the Thursday night classes, I bounced out of bed on a Friday morning. And I could see the happiness filtering through in other parts of my life. I loved the time I got to spend outside my usual bubble.”

Rohaana was talking to her best friend the other day, a pharmaceutical scientist, who has started doing charcoal drawings and enrolled in a fashion design class. They were discussing the importance of having a creative outlet. “The main thing is just to get out there and do what you want to do. You don’t want to look back, and regret it. Sometimes I look back at my University days and think, why didn’t I pursue other hobbies then? But this experience at Studio J has taught me that as soon as one gets inspired to try something new, you should just go ahead without wasting time.”
