Our advanced level Bharatanatyam students recently performed interstate at the “Shakti Women’s Empowerment Festival”, organised by teacher, Govind Pillai, from Karma Dance.
The full-length classical Indian dance show was performed by dancers Divya, Veena, Ranvir, Trishula, Jaya and Govind, supported by technical crew Manjusha (Lighting) and Adrian (Sound). The Festival was an initiative of ARD Inc, a local charity that has been supporting women in rural India since 2005.
A heartfelt thank you to Govind and Adrian for coordinating our group and organising every little detail – big and small!
Our trip was beautifully summarised by Govind: “THIS was Byron Bay – where a warm & engaged audience gathered for our art, where the scent of the sea lingered in the air, where days of laughter carried us through, and nights of friendship brought us closer. Aren’t these the moments that we live for? That we dance for?”
