Featured student – Hella Ibrahim

We reckon we have some pretty fabulous students at Studio J who are doing some amazing work of their own! We’ll be featuring a student in each newsletter, and we couldn’t think of anyone better for our first – Hella Ibrahim! Hella has been with us since we first opened doors 2 years ago and is currently in our Mohiniyattam group. Hella is an Egyptian-Australian Muslim editor with a passion for activism through writing and publishing. She works as an editor at Jacaranda on weekdays and hangs behind the desk at Hobsons Bay libraries on weekends. She is also the founder and editorial director of Djed Press, an online publication that provides a paid platform for creators of colour.

She recently wrote this powerful piece for the Melbourne Writers Festival 2018 Women of Letters event, where the theme was ‘A Goodbye Letter’. Read the full letter here: A Goodbye to Fear.

Say hello to Hella if you see her around the studio – the girl with the big hair, big smile and a big heart!
