This is our SHOWCASE term, which will be 7 weeks plus the end of year student showcase on 17 December 2017. New students are still encouraged to enrol as you will be performing what students learn this term. Our end of year showcases are fun, supportive, judgement free and a great way to bond with your fellow students. Still uncomfortable about performing? Don’t worry – the showcase is completely voluntary 🙂 You are still welcome to enrol for classes only this term.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Most of our courses are ‘open level classes’ and cater to everyone. We encourage all beginners and those who have never danced before. The majority of our students are new to dance and we offer a supportive, non-competitive environment. We also have courses suited for intermediate/advanced levels, including BollyNatyam, Kathak Semi-Classical, Bharatanatyam and Bollywood (Intermediate) course.
Anything comfortable is fine! If unsure then standard fitness wear or tracksuit pants are best. Students may choose to wear a kurta or practice sari for the traditional indian dance forms such as Bharatanatyam or Mohiniyattam, but this is not compulsory.
Nearly all of the dance styles at Studio J are performed barefoot, with the exceptions of Bhangra,Bhangra-HipHop and K-Pop (comfortable footwear/sneakers are required).
The majority of our classes are suitable for late teens and adults only. We will occasionally accept early-mid teenagers if they have considerable prior dance experience, however please contact us to discuss thisfirst.
Our dance styles are specialised and require constant revision and refining of technique. Running 8-week courses as opposed to “casual” or “drop in” classes is the best way for us to teach most effectively.
It is also the best learning experience for students, as it avoids having to go over material already taught, and we can progress as a whole class. Each lesson will start with the foundation exercises, followed by learning steps for a routine. The following week we will do a quick revision and correct anything that needs “cleaning up” and then add the next part of the routine. For the entire term we continue to revise and steadily building upon one or more routines so that you can master the routine.

Please note that if you wish to continue classes after your free trial, then you will be enrolled in the course starting NEXT term. The only exception is if you trial the first class of the term, then you may continue with the rest of the course and pre-payment will be required for the remaining 7 weeks.
*Free trials apply only to our 8-week courses.
No, classes do not run if they fall on a public holiday. You will not be charged for that class and the course price is adjusted automatically.
For any cancellations, missed classes or “drop outs” for whatever reason after the course has commenced, we offer no refunds, credits or deferrals.
A full refund is available only if a minimum of 14 days notice is given in writing (email) prior to the commencement of the course. For cancellations made within 14 days of the course starting, we offer a deferral of the enrolment to the following term.
