Performing Stories is a 2-hour class, 4-week workshop, designed for dancers, writers, actors and musicians as a voyage to find their own voices from the inside out. To listen and tune into what story their body is telling them in relation to the music or dance that they have trained in.
In particular, this workshop is directed at those who have some classical Indian dance/music/Bollywood dance background and would like to develop their forms to express themselves. Using improvisation, group work, and storytelling capacities inherent in Indian dance/music, we will explore ways in which a performer can tap into telling their own personal stories.
What to expect from this workshop:
– How to feel more confident in expressing yourself through voice, musical instrument, dance and storytelling.
– Find ways to be yourself and exploring your strengths and overcoming your weaknesses.
– Work with other artists who have an Indian dance/music background, with whom you can connect and learn from in a safe and nurturing environment.
Performing Stories is a 4-week workshop, facilitated by Dr Priya Srinivasan and Arun Munoz. The next workshop dates are yet to be confirmed. Please contact us to register your interest.
“One of the highlight of 2016 for me was meeting Priya Srinivasan and Arun Muñoz who have both done extraordinary things in the field of classical and contemporary Indian dance. Their 4-week workshop series ‘Performing Stories’ at Studio J were fantastic, I loved exploring narrative, embodiment and improvisation techniques and new approaches to theatre-making. Priya and Arun are goldmines of exciting ideas. Highly recommended for anyone with a background in South Asian movement and music.” (Performing Stories student, 2016)
